Alumni Stories: Ali Gosea from LYBOTICS Youth Team

I have always been curious and fascinated at the same time with how things work and operate. In 2019, I had the opportunity to join the LYBOTICS Youth Team and do just that and more!

I participated with the team in FIRST Global Challenge 2019 Dubai and FIRST Robotics Competition 2018-2019 Turkey. I also delivered lessons on the basics of robotics to children and young adults who were also interested in robots as part of the outreach activities we’re running on the team.

We were a successful team since we practice teamwork, communication, time management, problem-solving critical, and creative thinking which helped us in our journey of building and operating robots. We carefully chose members who suit those skills to make sure we maintain the highest standards for the team.

We have faced many challenges, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were not able to continue our work. Nevertheless, we did not stop our work. We started making free face shields and gowns from home to help front-line workers battle the pandemic. Another challenge was funding and resources, as we are a small youth team, not sponsored by major donors. However, we have always worked very hard to ensure high-quality work with what we had.
